1. SHOW UP
Attend Regional Partner Organizations (RPO) events & seminars. This is one of the best ways to rub shoulders with other like-minded professionals. Remember to put your best foot forward, and don’t forget to bring business cards.
2. GET INVOLVED
Join a committee and volunteer, contribute and sponsor. Attending an event and meeting people is great, but what will truly make you stand out is volunteering and helping others get involved. This is a great way to meet speakers and other sponsors behind the scenes, and up your game as an authentic contributor.
3. DO YOUR HOMEWORK
Research the prospective company and get to know their business. This is what attendees forget the most! Do your homework, know who will be in the room and the brands that will be represented. If you want to make the greatest impact, preparing before the event will not only set you apart as an informed influencer, but garner you recognition for being “in the know”.
4. KNOW YOUR OWN LIMITS
What’s your sweet spot? Realistically, can you scale up to be a prime or are you better suited as a tier two supplier. The keys to success is knowing what your business does best. Are you a global enterprise that can handle partnerships with fortune 500 companies, or are you a second tier partner that is building up towards prime status? Knowing your strengths and points of differentiation among other diverse suppliers is critical to winning business and meeting high-potential connections.
5. NETWORK, PARTNER & COLLABORATE
Get to know other WBE’s, determine how you might partner together or share resources. Remember your parents saying “sharing is caring”? Well the same principle applies to professionals, too. Colleagues who collaborate and partner are more likely to succeed than those who don’t. Be sure to think about who you could build mutually beneficial relationships with, and nurture them.
6. PUT YOUR BEST FOOT FORWARD
Lead with your core competencies and pursue opportunities that play to your strengths. Again, know what your organization is best at and lead with it. WBE’s want to partner with the best, and being the best means you know what your strengths are.
